They have never attracted any significant software support. Hi Michael, Congratulations on your milestone. I love the program itself. Translating a 50 page file to Finale would be less than the cost of the plug-in. Or improve on it.

Given the demand, hopefully that will happen in the future. There are lots of patent- or license-encumbered standards that don't. Sibelius should have this feature. Because the MusicXML file is a self-documenting, text-based format with wide application support, it most likely will be readable in the future. The sbelius two weeks have brought a remarkable maturation to the MusicXML software world.

Sibeliuz hoping I'll come calling some time this year to order it! A standard notation format combined with mass-market tablet platforms like iOS and Android makes for a bright future for digital sheet music.

I find the present situation "interesting" in the fact that, with a little added expense, you're not limited to sharing Sib files only with other Sibelius users.

There was another very important MusicXML event the week before version 3. First I tried to import the Finale file into Sibelius version 5.

For music notation software, open is perhaps more important than sbelius involvement of a standards body. If you have a score with three pages, it is a three step workflow. Thus at the end it might be more expensive not to include XML-export than to give it away. This makes Dolet 6 for Sibelius less expensive than a Sibelius 7 upgrade.

I collaborate with colleagues who use Finale. The lack of MusicXML export in Sibelius does not only impair compatibility almost all of us must exchange files with friends, musicians, editors, etc who are Finale users but it also implies that I'm not able to back-up my files in a format that I'll be able to read and edit with other software, should I want some day to change or should Sibelius cease to be supported for any reason. This causes odlet lot sieblius inconvenience for those that collaborate across platforms.

There are exciting times ahead!

Secondarily, Sibelius isn't exactly harking back to the Bad Old Days of proprietary file formats. Again, I would be the first to voice support for native export - but because there are solutions sibellus, I don't find it to be malice on Sibelius' part that it's not included.

If I had to purchase notation software again, I might purchase Finale, simply because more people I know use Dolett and I want to easily collaborate with other musicians in this way.

Oh yeah, it looks amazing, too. Even a very basic converter would be very useful--something that at least identifies time signature, instrument names and basic beaming, as opposed to MIDI files.

So as with most computer-related things if you don't actually need to do something right now, you can't lose by waiting. I just purchased Sibelius 6. We have said many times that MusicXML export is on our list folet possible future features, and it simply has to compete with every other feature request in terms of priority.
